Text of the Agreement
  Background and Negotiations
   

At the 2005 APEC leaders' meeting, held in Korea, Chile and Thailand agreed to study the possibility of negotiating a free trade agreement. The two governments set up a joint feasibility study work group towards this end, which met for the first time in Bangkok, Thailand in February 2006. The second meeting was held in May 2006 in Santiago, Chile.

On 12 May 2010, the government of Thailand approved the draft of the negotiation framework of a free trade agreement with Chile. The first round of negotiations was held in Bangkok, on 08 april 2011. The second round took place in Santiago, Chile, from 23 to 25 May 2011. The third round was held in Bangkok, in August 2011. The fourth round of negotiations took place in Santiago, from 19 to 21 March 2012. The fifth round of negotiations was held in Bangkok, in May 2012. The sixth round of negotiations took place in Santiago, in August 2012. The free trade agreement was signed on 04 October 2013, in Bangkok, Thailand.

  Entry into Force
    The Chile-Thailand Free Trade Agreement entered into force on November 5th, 2015.

  Implementation of the Agreement
   

The first meeting of the Free Trade Commission since the entry into force of the Chile-Thailand Free Trade Agreement was held on 31 May 2017 in Bangkok, Thailand. The Commission met again on August 24, 2018 in Santiago, Chile to discuss issues such as, trade and gender, environmental and labor issues, and cooperation for export and investment promotion.

The fourth meeting of the Free Trade Commission, which was held on May 15, 2023, had the purpose of updating the progress of each country in global and regional trade, as well as ratifying the bilateral agreements and decisions adopted by both countries.
