On February 28, 2024, Ecuador and the United Arab Emirates agreed to begin negotiations on a Trade Agreement. On April 22, 2024, Ecuador and the United Arab Emirates signed a joint declaration regarding the intention to negotiate a comprehensive trade agreement between both nations that would increase the volume of bilateral trade and investments.
On May 3, 2025, Ecuador and the United Arab Emirates consolidated progress toward a trade agreement through technical meetings to reach agreements on market access, investment regimes, mutual recognition in customs matters, and the standardization of health controls.
