  Background and Negotiations

MERCOSUR and Singapore launched negotiations for a free trade agreement on July 23, 2018 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The first round of trade negotiations concluded on October 9, 2018 in Montevideo, Uruguay. A new round of trade negotiations took place in Argentina on April 22-26, 2019

On September 30, 2020, there was a meeting of the chief negotiators to analyze the progress and evaluate the best way to move forward with the negotiations.

On March 30, 2021, Chief Negotiators of MERCOSUR and Singapore met to analyze progress in the negotiations between both parties with the aim of signing a state-of-the-art, ambitious, balanced and comprehensive trade agreement that will strengthen the commercial relationship, increase the trade of goods and services, as well as the establishment of investments.

On August 26, 2021, Mercosur and Singapore Chief Negotiators met in order to evaluate the technical work carried out and define the relaunch of the negotiations and a work schedule with a view to the conclusion of a trade agreement between both parties.
