Non-reciprocal Preferential Arrangements:  Caribbean Basin Initiative (CBI)

The Caribbean Basin Initiative (CBI) originated with the 1983 Caribbean Basin Economic Recovery Act, which came into effect on 1 January 1984. This program was expanded in 2000  through the U.S.-Caribbean Basin Trade Partnership Act (CBTPA) which entered into force on 1October 2000 and will be in effect until 30 September 2008.

CBI beneficiaries are  Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, British Virgin Islands, Costa Rica, Dominica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Montserrat, Netherlands Antilles, Nicaragua, Panama, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago.
