  Background and Negotiations
   

The U.S.-Israel Free Trade Area (FTA) Agreement was signed on 22 April 1985, ratified and signed into law (Public Law No. 99-47) by the United States on 11 June 1985 and ratified by the Israeli Cabinet on 20 August 1985, and came into force on 19 August 1985. In July 2004, the United States and Israel exchanged letters agreeing to certain aspects of trade in agricultural products. On 18 October 2010, a joint statement was released on the 25th anniversary of the signing of their FTA.

During the week of August 21, 2011, the United States and Israel reached an agreement on a process to expand trade and investment between both countries. A meeting of the Joint Committee of the United-States-Israel Free Trade Agreement was held on 16 February 2012.
