In November 2008, Chile and Indonesia agreed to establish a
Joint Study Group on the merits of a bilateral free trade agreement. The final report was concluded
in November 2009.
On 26 May 2014, Chile and Indonesia initiated negotiations for a free trade agreement.
On March 16, 2017, Chile resumed negotiations with Indonesia to reach a trade agreement.
Chile and Indonesia continued their negotiations on June 15-16, 2017; addressing, inter alia,
issues of market access, rules of origin, customs procedures, legal issues and cooperation.
The fourth round of negotiations took place in Jakarta, Indonesia on August 21-23, 2017.
The fifth round of negotiations, held in Santiago (Chile), concluded on October 20, 2017.
On December 14, 2017, Chile and Indonesia signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement
