Background and Negotiations

The free trade agreement between Chile and Mexico was signed on 17 April 1998 and entered into force on 1 August 1999.

Implementation of the Agreement

Article 17-01 of the free trade agreement establishes a Free Trade Commission whose task is to oversee the implementation of the Agreement. The Free Trade Commission is to meet regularly, at least once a year.

Modernization of the Agreement

On February 28, 2024, within the framework of the 13th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Undersecretary of International Economic Relations of Chile and the Undersecretary of Foreign Trade of Mexico signed the terms of reference (ToR) for the Modernization of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
