On 10 September 2010, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras and Panama agreed to launch negotiations for an FTA
with Peru. While the negotiations would be developed
jointly, the agreement would have a bilateral basis
between Peru and each of the participating Central
American countries. The first round of negotiations
was held in Peru on 08-12 November 2010. Guatemala
participated as well in this round of negotiations.
The second round took place in Panama from 17 to 21
January 2011. The third round was held from 28 February to 04 March 2011 in San Jose, Costa Rica. A mini round of negotiations took place in Panama from 04 to 08 April 2011. The fourth round of negotiations was held in Lima, Peru from 02 to 06 May 2011. During this round, Peru and Panama, as well as Peru and Costa Rica concluded negotiations of their respective free trade agreements. On 25 May 2011 Panama and Peru signed a free trade agreement.
