  Background and Negotiations
   

On March 28, 2023, Costa Rica and the United Arab Emirates announced the launch of negotiations for a trade agreement between the two countries.

On Friday, July 14, 2023 the first round of negotiations for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement on Trade and Investment between Costa Rica and the United Arab Emirates concluded successfully.

On September 18, 2023, the second round of negotiation of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement on Trade and Investment between Costa Rica and the United Arab Emirates was successfully concluded. During this meeting, the chapters on technical barriers to trade, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and final provisions were concluded.

On January 11, 2024, Costa Rica and the United Arab Emirates reached a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement on Trade and Investment.

On April 17, 2024, the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement on Trade and Investment was signed between Costa Rica and the United Arab Emirates.

  Entry into force
   

On January 15, 2025, the President and the Minister of Foreign Trade of Costa Rica signed a decree ratifying the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement on Trade and Investment between Costa Rica and the United Arab Emirates (CEPA). On February 6, 2025, Costa Rica and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) held the formal exchange of ratification notes of the Agreement in Dubai. This meeting is the final step in the ratification process of the agreement that will enter into force on April 1, 2025.

Contents
