The leaders of Peru and South Korea anounced on 21 November, 2008, in the
framework of the XVI APEC Leaders Summit Meeting held in Lima, Peru, their decision to initiate trade negotiations to reach
a bilateral trade agreement (FTA) between both
nations. On 20 March 2009, Peru and South Korea
concluded the first round of negotiations toward a
free trade agreement. The second round took place
from 11-14 May in Lima, Peru. The third was held in
Seoul, South Korea, from 23 June to 3 July. The
fourth round culminated on 26 October 2009. The last
round of negotiations was held on 30 August 2010 in
Lima, Peru. On 14 November 2010, both countries
signed a Memorandum of Understanding. On 21 March
2011, Peru and Korea signed a Free Trade Agreement.
