At the 20 June 2005 meeting of Foreign Ministers of MERCOSUR (composed of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay) and Panama, the Parties set out a work programme. The first technical meeting took place in April 2006. The Parties exchanged information leading to an evaluation of the possibility of launching negotiations towards a trade agreement. A second meeting was planned for the second semester of 2006.
The Economic Complementation Agreement between the MERCOSUR Member States and Panama was signed on December 6, 2024.
