In December 2015, Chile and China held technical negotiations with the objective of broadening and
deepening their existing agreement. The meeting focused on the areas of trade in services, electronic
commerce, rules of origin, custom procedures and trade facilitation, market access, environment,
competition policy and technical and economic cooperation.
On July 14, 2017 Chile and China concluded the second round of negotiations for the deepening of the
Chile-China FTA. The third round of negotiations took place in Santiago, Chile on August 28-30, 2017.
Chile and China signed the expanded and modernized FTA on November 11, 2017 in Da Nang, Vietnam.
On Wednesday, October 24, 2018, the Chilean Senate approved the Protocol of Modification of the Free
Trade and the Complementary Agreement on Trade in Services signed between Chile and China.
On March 1st, 2019, the Chile-china expanded Free Trade Agreement entered into force. The expanded
agreement deepened, among others, the chapters on trade in goods, trade in services, electronic
commerce, rules of origin, customs procedures and trade facilitation, technical and economic cooperation,
and trade rules.
